Faculty of Music, Silpakorn University is one of the top five music schools in Thailand. Nevertheless, the faculty lacks financial support for instrumental equipments, spaces, and facilities to serve 600 users.

The faculty is consisted of 3 major buildings; the main building, canteen, and office of the president. To fully use the existing area, the office of the president is adapted to a music library and social space in the lower floors. The existing two-story canteen, which is connected to the double-space main building, is transformed into a three-story recital hall.

Apart from solving the limited spaces, the main idea aims to bring back the ambience of Silpakorn University’s original Wang Tha Phra campus. It is widely acknowledged to be artistically casual in terms of space functioning and social interactions.

The outcome of the proposed design enhance visual interaction, flexibility, and align to the digital learning of the 21st Century.

Optimum for classical music

Optimum for jazz

The existing canteen is converted into a recital hall. By employing this seating configuration, it maximizes the sense of intimacy between performers and audiences, and to enhance interactive experiences. There are flexible acoustic wall panels that can be opened for classical music performance where the sound needed more reverberation time to echo than jazz. When the panels are opened, the lobby allows the energy generated within the performance space to extend visually into the community.
